Frequently Asked Questions
How long are Counseling Sessions?
Sessions typically last for 45 - 50 minutes.
How long will I need to be in treatment?
Therapy can be as short as one session or may take several years, depending on the specific needs and wants of the client.
Some clients come to counseling they have identified a specific problem that they want to solve. Often times, for them, only one or two sessions are needed in order for them to feel better about their situation. Others, however, have deeper and more complex issues that may require more time to address.
It also depends on the type of therapy in which the client is participating. For example, cognitive behavioral therapy tends to take less time, whilee psychoanalytically-oriented therapies may take longer. At Yuma Counseling, we use an eclectic approach of treatment modalities. Our deepest desire is to help our clients find the most effective and lasting approach to finding the inner peace they are seeking.
How do I pay for counseling and how much will it cost?
For Individual and Family Counseling Services our fees range from $120 to $150 per each 45 - 50 minute session depending on family size and income. You can review our sliding scale
In addition, we do work with many insurance companies, which also cover counseling services. You can talk with our receptionist about which insurances with whom we are currently contracted.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes. We abide by the legal and ethical requirements of healthcare and counseling to protect your confidentiality. Only in rare exceptions when the safety of a client or others are at risk can disclosure of confidential client-therapist information be released.
What will happen on my first visit?
You will be asked to fill out some forms prior to seeing your therapist. A copy of these forms can be located under the FORMS link above. It usually takes about 20 minutes to complete these forms so we recommend that you come at least a half hour early to your session or fill out the forms before you arrive.
Once you arrive, you will be asked to wait in the waiting room until your therapist will come and take you to their office. The therapist will review your paperwork and conduct an assessment of the issues for which you are seeking counseling. After the assessment, your therapist will work with you to set up a treatment plan that includes establishing goals to achieve in your sessions.
What happens if I can't make my appointment?
Our desire is to help as many people as possible. If a client misses an appoinment with out notifying us, this potentially means that another person who could have benefited from that appointment also missed out on an opportunity to find greater peace.
Our Cancellation/No Show Policy is that if you do not cancel at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment, you will be charged the full appointment fee.
What if my counselor doesn't seem to be the right fit for me?
Finding a therapist is sort of like finding a great pair of shoes, you may have to try on a few pair before you find the one that fits perfectly for you. At Yuma Counseling, you always get to choose your counselor. Even if you start with one, you can always switch. Just let us know and we will help you find the best fit for your needs, even if it is with another agency.
